It has recently been announced that the popular telecommunications provider BT that serves around 18 million users in the UK, is moving a portion of those customers on to their new ‘Unlimited Minutes plan’ in a bid to make ‘things more simple and easy to understand’. In doing so, your BT bill could rise by about £5 per month. The increase alone is almost as much as you pay for a Virtual Landline basic package which includes your telephone number rental, unlimited inbound minutes (to UK landline and mobile) and a £5 welcome call credit bonus.
Although £5 in the grand scheme of things doesn’t seem so big, phone line rentals are already on average £12 to £20 a month in the UK. At the very least, this increase represents a price increase of 25%!
Over 1 million of BT’s customers are expected to be affected. However, the same package can be found for roughly half the BT price at Virtual Landline. Virtual Landline offers a ‘UK Unlimited’ package which includes unlimited inbound/outbound calls to any standard UK Landline & mobile numbers and all for only £7.95 a month!
The changes at BT will come into effect by September 1st 2020 and affect anyone with a BT landline. If this includes you it may be time to start shopping around.
